The last bmxer in Derby -fact. (maybe)

So everyone's either already gone to Backyard or went today, some people are even lucky enough to be working on Mode's stand, getting a free pair of etnies and being invited to the annual etnies meal with all the pros (Will and Sarah - gits) buuuuuuuuut instead of paying real money to watch bmx inside I rode from 10am-11am, got puncture - 5mile walk (get in!), then 12.30-5pm and it was fegging awesome. Kinda see what Jonas Lidberg's on about when he goes riding by himself. You're riding only for yourself, there's no one there to upstage you or to take endless goes, you get as long as you want to pull a trick without feeling like you're holding everyone up and it's just you vs the street.

Today I took 2 tripods (lil n' large) our fisheye and camera with an extra battery and just filmed lines/tricks I wanted - best day I've had in Derby for a long time. One trick I'm glad I was by myself, I would never wish to put someone through the amount of attempts I had at a manual to 180 line, I honestly believe it was in the 100 area (I counted 65 alone on the video and that's not including the ones that I taped over...) but it was so worth it when it got pulled (albeit fairly messily).

Soooo I may put a video up as well as the flips video or I may just crawl into bed as my body's ragged, sorry the flip video isn't up yet but uni honestly is a bastard at the moment, today was great just taking the whole day off not thinking about it.

Ride on.

FLEET END OF SUMMER JAM

8th october 2006: well then!

last night, nick jason and i assembled the wallride from wood that jason and i had been stealing every night for the last week. some chavvy types decided to kick it down later, twats. jason and i went up there at 9 this morning and got to work with screws and nails, making the thing like a fortress. it was darn solid i tell you! here's jason with our almost finished wallride castle this morning:

people started turning up at around 12. pretty soon after that, darren was trying whip-to-taps and dislocated his ankle... shitluck. it was horrid. they gave him lots of drugs and he seemed to be pretty much off his tit by the time the ambulance took him to hospital. he smiled when his girl arrived:
nope, definitely not right...
pretty much all the fleet boys learned how to wallride on our creation! which was awesome. good to help out like. we had a bbq behind the mini... here's nick getting his smokey wallride on:
much fun was had with trolley jumps. i got in the thing for a bit, it was pretty scary:
sam and jonny got topless:
jonny wallrides:
so, the session was good, but quite chilled. that was until sam decided to flip the box! pretty damn good first go! did another one then sent some from the flyout. jonny did some on the flyout too, bloody good stuff. i flipped the box. didn't work out so well, i needed more speed really. managed to frig up my knee a bit (through jeans and knee pad. damn my stem is pretty hard!) i'm sure there will be videos up here soon... here's sam's first ever skatepark flip:
we had to take the wallride down because the council are clowns. but we are getting the ball rolling with park improvements, organising lots of events for next year hopefully. we just have to show we're committed. with more jams like this i think we'll be onto a winner..

Today I rediscovered BMX

Alright boys! After generally not enjoying BMX since being in Australia, today it's safe to say I got the 'buzz' back.

Sod street, sod skateparks, TRAILS ARE WHERE IT'S AT.

Travelled 2 hours on a train into the Aussie countryside to some random town called Bendigo for a trail jam. I arrived late and by this stage the barbie was going, beers flowing and riders getting heckled on the big sets. The 'filth' made a brief visit to take home some drunk underage kids, but this didn't spoil the fun.

From a spectators point of view some big stuff went down. Given that there was nothing but pride at stake (no money, no prizes) the turnout of riders/country fruitcakes was impressive. To see a decade and 720 get pulled at a small event like this rocked.

I have a new digital camera now folks, so crank the speakers on this one, we have sound!

To keep the street kids happy there was a ghetto ramp/rail comp later in the day. This area was adjacent to the sofas and drunks, so the quality of heckling stepped up a notch. Amongst some comedy rail attempts some genuine street bombs were dropped.

This is an icepick down the rail. Some sicko later 360'd over the rail from that little kicker...

For me, the trails were a treat. This town hasn't had a proper rainfall for 6 years, so the dirt was hard as f-k...as my back wheel/wrists found out on numerous occasions!! Yes, even when you're on the other side of the world some things don't change. Nose bonks, 'double dongs', good old fashioned case to ball ride and some spectacularly successful bails went down on more than a few occasions by my badsel,f as I got used to riding mud jumps after a shamefully long break.

Stu - 1st in the back line I was doing

http://media.putfile.com/Stu---back-line-run

The back line was pretty steep and kicky. The run up wasn't ideal so I was happy to get to the 6th on my best effort. This is the great thing about trails - the challenge! No tricks, no spins, no grinding, no shit; just having fun riding a bike in the air. I''l definitely be heading back soon and who knows, maybe in a few trips I'll grow some balls and try the big sets...

Like so many days at Velmead/Tweseldown, fire became the other form of entertainment and this marked the end of the jam. I left to catch the train back, the 'filth' returned and a wild night in Bendigo ensued.

Moral of the story? RIDE MORE TRAILS

Yeah Enns!

There's a reason why FATBMX.COM's news is called "believe it or not"; turns out Enns didn't win shit!

Recently I've been riding a lot of MTB, (I can almost hear the boos from Fleet) which has been really good. Myself and a couple of the bike club guys went to Mike's house, which is in the Quantock hills near Wellington, Somerset. We rode some good DH courses which had road gaps, fast bit, technical woody bits, rooty bits, rocky bits, hell it was just awesome.

Today we had the freshers' fair. We signed up a fair few less than last year, but we've hiked the price up a bit and the intake this year looks to be a lot more committed, so it should be good. Even managed to rope in a couple of BMXers, shock horror!

I have some film to develop which will get done soon, and then I'll have beers for cheers stuff to put up hear. For Dunk and Chris's shots, check http://blistbmx.blogspot.com.

Ta ta for now.
