If you're gonna play in Texas...

I was in a Steak House this evening and they played this song, in amongst all the other country and western genius. It obviously reminded me of Aaron Ross's first proper section in the Empire DVD, so here it is. I love it and the riding is still amazing, but how AWFUL does his bike sound when he lands!? Looking forward to catching up with Nelly McG and hitting Austin this weekend! Yee Haaww

"All this crazy wind"

Road Fools 7-12 were my faves. I just started watching this and I was amazed at how young everyone was. Scott Malyon, 23! Most of them considerably younger than I am now. Big bmx effort this year for me.

Had to post it after you mentioned it Nick. I know my riding style is nothing like his but I really, really wish it was. love this guy.

Since everyone here is obviosuly Greg fans, here's one of his older videos.

Greg Illingworth Mongoose Edit from The Riot on Vimeo.

Also, I was watching that Kris Fox 2013 edit and thought 'Here's an example of another bmx video in the style of the Anthony Neapolitan Icecream video' then I looked at the filmer/editor and it was the same dude... Recognisable style I guess.

Judging by Will Evans' videos (new Greg Illingworth one) he gets better each time and is chipping away at Sowerby's title of best filmer & editor. Well that's my opinion anyway.

Oh, and Ben, there was a brief write up on the Anthony and Kris Fox shoots on his blog if you haven't already read it, here.

Discussion

I find this video interesting for several reasons, but mainly because it's basically filmed and edited very much like a modern mountainbike web vid.  Certain things you always see in mountainbike edits that also crop up in this are:

  • Completely inoffensive music
  • Close up SUPER SLOW MO shots
  • Fast pans
  • Lots of supporting shots (bike and rider)
  • Speed - no flat rails at walking pace.
  • It's very clean and pretty.
  • I think I saw a mountain in there.
Whether or not this approach 'suits' BMX is up for debate, but I think it works quite well with Anthony Napolitan's style.  He seems like a pretty clean and pro sort of dude, and his riding is very precise.  Personally, I still like bmx videos to be a bit rough and ready, or at least seem that way (Anthem).

Other discussion points; that set-up at the end is clearly a FMX hip jump, which makes you realise just how big those guys go.  Getting two-thirds of the way up the landing on a bmx was a pretty big deal; they probably go 50 feet above it.

Anyway, enough rambling.

MacAskill interview

Ello gents, long time no post.

Good interview with MacAskill here:

http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/biking/city-biking/Danny-MaCaskill-Cant-Ride-a-Bike.html?page=2

bit lifestyle-y rather than riding focused but still quite interested from a 'career from riding' perspective (plus quite long).

Extra note, I fly to India on February the 17th and via asia and finally New Zealand, I won't be back for a couple of years (well, there'll be a couple of visits in there I expect). If anyone's around between now and then it'd be good to hang out - In the couple of weeks before (from the 1st) I'm around for some very cheap trips to people's hometowns if people have time.
